Counselling
at the Rose and Crown Clinic
If you are struggling, feeling, low, anxious or depressed, finding relationships difficult, maybe you're grieving or have experienced trauma, or perhaps you just feel stuck and want to change how you feel - Counselling can help.
We have four counsellors based at the clinic.
If you are interested in making an appointment contact the counsellors directly using their information below.
Abi Howarth
MBACP Counselling

Works at the clinic on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.
I have worked at the Rose and Crown as a Counsellor for over 5 years. Sometimes people come to counselling for help with something specific; other times it may simply be a sense that things aren't ok and something needs to change.
My primary aim is to be there for you, to create a space in the week where you can come and talk about whatever you need to, without judgement. I will work hard to understand your world as you see it, and support you to navigate through whatever you may be finding difficult right now.
I also have specialist experience in supporting people through bereavement and loss.
I am very happy to have an initial conversation over the phone, and also offer a free 30-minute session if you would like to meet with me and find out a bit more.

Charles Cullen
Registered Nurse (Mental Health)
Accredited Psychotherapist in EMDR and CBT.
I am a Registered Nurse (Mental Health) and Psychotherapist.
I have worked in the NHS and private practice for the last 30 years.
I believe that nobody wakes up one day with mental health difficulties. Depression and Anxiety Disorders usually arise from difficult times in the present and can be influenced by unprocessed memories from the past.
Following assessment I work with people to see whether EMDR, CBT or a combination of both may suit their particular problems.
EMDR Therapy:
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
It is a unique therapy that helps people recover from problems triggered by traumatic events in their lives. These events could be from the distant or more recent past.
EMDR stops difficult memories causing so much distress by helping the brain to reprocess them properly, working with memory to heal the legacy of the past.
EMDR therapy is best known for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder but can help with a range of other mood problems including Depression and all the Anxiety Disorders.

CBT:
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
CBT helps you understand that your thoughts, feelings, actions and body sensations are all connected. By changing one you can change the others.
When we feel depressed or anxious we sometimes think and act in ways that make us feel worse. CBT helps us notice and change these unhelpful thoughts and actions so we can feel better. Therapist and patient work together to set goals and find solutions.
